Jimmy Buffett Surprise At Margaritaville Nashville Dec 2 2010

Pholks at the Nashville Margaritaville got a surprise visit from Jimmy Buffett Thursday night Dec 2 2010. Also with Jimmy were Mac McAnally and Will Kimbrough. Some of the songs they did were ‘It’s My Job’, ‘Nobody From Nowhere’, ‘Wings’, ‘Son Of A Son Of A Sailor’, ‘Pirate Looks At Forty’, ‘West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown’, ‘Fins’, (some other songs I forget ;-) ) and they closed the show with the Parrothead anthem ‘Margaritaville’. Jimmy also told some stories about his previous failed show biz careers in Nashville and other misc short stories. Before ‘west/nash/ball/gown’ Jimmy asks if anybody knows the mating call of a southern belle. Answer – “Y’all, I’m drunk!!!” Surprise show lasted about 1 1/2+ hour then “Elvis” left the building.

Margaritaville Nashville Grand Opening Festivities Nov 22 2010

On Monday November 22, 2010 Margaritaville Nashville had their Grand Opening. Nashville Mayor Dean and Margaritaville officials (but no Jimmy) gave a few speeches, cut a ribbon and drank Margaritas from big (1 quart maybe) Margarita glasses. There was a tour for the media and then they opened for business. Several of the MCPHiNs were there and sampled the free Margaritas before setting down for Cheesburgers, shrimp and other fine food.

NOMINATIONS:

Steve Colburn for President – Steve and his wife Marcia helped start the Music City Phins in 2003. Long time Parrotheads, Steve and Marcia worked with a few other folks to get the club going in Nashville. Steve has served in various Board positions over the past years including President. As Kathleen has decided to step down, Steve is ready to take on the challenge and try to keep the enthusiasm and momentum going another year. It looks to be exciting with Margaritaville opening soon and the club celebrating 8 years in Music City. Steve wants to get more members involved in committees to bring some new ideas to a great organization.

Marcia Colburn for Membership Director/Secretary – Marcia and her husband Steve helped get the club started back in 2003. Marcia has served in various positions on the Board including Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Director. She is so proud to see the club with over 160 members and hopes to find ways to renew those memberships in 2011.

Kathleen Wallish for VP/Social Director – Kat has done a great job running the club for the past two years. While she needs a break from the President role, she is anxious to stay involved in the VP position. Kat has lots of friends and contacts in the music industry including Trop Rockers! She will continue to keep the music playing for the club as VP.

Jamie Bonkowski for Charities Director – Hello Music City Phins – I would like to be the Charities Director for our organization. Here is just a little about me. I am an educator for OmniVisions -TASK School in Lebanon, TN. This is a a residential treatment facility for children that have been court ordered to undergo treatment and are not able to attend a regular public school due to their offences. Being an educator for many years I understand the importance of charitable organizations and what a benefit they provide to the community. I would like to work with the Music City Phins members to foster community involvement. With the help of our members we can continue to develop in our charitable contributions to the community. Thank you all for your consideration for Charities Director.

Mike Pugh for Web Master – Mike has been the constant in the club since day 1. He keeps us all informed with a great web site. Let’s keep him doing what he does best!

Sept 2010 Happy Hour

As we looked for a another cool place to phlock for this month’s Music City PHiNs Happy Hour, along came this great invitation we just couldn’t pass up:

PETER MAYER GROUP in concert at 3RD & LINDSLEY, 816 3rd Avenue South, Nashville, TN, on SEPT 17th at 7PM (doors open at 6PM)

Peter will be performing songs from his latest release, the well received, Goodbye Hello, a collection of Beatle songs re-imagined. There will also be a song list retrospective that reaches back over the 25 years of a career that has included national touring with the Billboard charting trio PM, a solo career with 11 CD’s as the Peter Mayer Group, and 20 + years of touring as lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett that continues to this day.

Please follow these suggestions to guarantee a successful Phlocking:

1. BUY YOUR TICKETS online for JUST $10
2. ARRIVE EARLY – Doors open at 6pm – a whole hour to get choice seats, eat dinner and socialize before the music starts!
3. WEAR CLUB BADGE – We’re still learning each other’s faces – so look for fellow members wearing their badges!
4. SIT TOGETHER – Make an effort to sit near other members – scooch over to share tables for maximum group seating!

PLEASE NOTE – I’ve been in touch with Peter’s manager who’s asked for some basic facts about the club to share with Peter when she lets him know we’ll be attending. Let’s not let him down!!! Peter has an amazing group of musicians and entertainers you’ll want to see again and again!!

On Friday, during the Happy Hour, MCPHiNs members Marcia and Steve Colburn’s truck will be parked in the marina lot by Dock A and have a huge balloon tied to it for easy spotting. On your way into the party simply throw your donations into the truck bed and Steve and Marcia will deliver the load directly to the Wilson Country Humane Society that weekend.
