2009 was another big year for Jimmy Buffett who celebrated his 63rd trip around the Sun on Christmas Day. Read about the ‘Summerzcool Tour’, his partnership with the Miami Dolphins to rename their home field Landshark Stadium, the release of his new album in December plus lots more in between at BuffettWorld’s ‘Jimmy Buffett 2009 Year In Review‘:

What’s Jimmy got planned in the new year ahead?
A Margaritaville Restaurant in Nashville? In mid December 2009 there was a job listing on monster.com looking for a Margaritaville restaurant general manager in Nashville. The listing was only up for 4 or 5 days and then it was gone. Did they find someone to fill the position or (like the Biloxi Casino) postpone it for awhile …h’mmmm…?

Tour date rumors mention Jimmy might do some shows in ’secondary markets’ (smaller and less visited locations) in 2010 but his ‘Buffet Hotel’ tour for 2010 starts in Australia and various Pacific locations. Tour dates for the spring and summer leg of the tour are usually announced in February and show dates for the rest of the year trickle out thru the spring and summer. He says he has thought of not playing his normal set list and instead wants to play entire albums next year along with some songs from the ‘Buffet Hotel’ album and some standard Big 10 parrothead songs. He mentions that he hopes to play his complete ‘One Particular Harbor’ album in Tahiti. Will there be a Nashville show …h’mmmm…?
Remember – MCPHiNs members get first shot at tickets and maybe other perks that might come our way! (Like our free tickets to see Jimmy Buffett, the Coral Reefers and the Zac Brown Band (‘toes in the water, ass in the sand’ song) film a CMT TV show in Franklin, TN in early December 2009)
Jimmy the film maker is working on a documentary (movie and DVD?) about his trip to the Festival in the Desert in Essakane (near Timbuktu, Mali in Africa) where he discovered the current album’s namesake – ‘Hotel De La Gare Buffet’ – in the Bomako Train station. The DVD’s release date has not been announced but I would guess it to be sometime in 2010 to be timely with the 2010 ‘Buffet Hotel’ tour and the ‘Buffet Hotel’ album which was released in December 2009.
Jimmy the author is also working on two more books to go with his previous 7 books written by him and/or co-written with his daughter Savannah Jane. Four of his books made it to the New York Times’ best seller list with three of them No.1 Best Sellers. The two new books are a collection of Pacific ocean short stories and a “real life adventure” novel called ‘Mudbath’ that he says “hopefully you won’t recognize any of the characters.”
Jimmy and/or his company – ‘Margaritaville Holdings, LLC’ – has interests in: restaurants, satellite radio, footwear, clothing, frozen foods, beer, tequila, rum, drink mixes, hardware (frozen concoction makers), outdoor furniture, recording studios, professional ball teams, race horses, a dog sled team, boats, airplanes/charter, his own record label, several charitable foundations and other things I forget. He still seems to enjoy performing and he is becoming involved in more business activities each year so 2010 probably has lots more in store for him and his parrothead phans.
Happy Holidays and Phins Up Y’all!
